The schedule of holding the Gazipur City Corporation polls will be decided on Monday, a top-level official at the EC Secretariat said.

The schedule of holding the Gazipur City Corporation polls will be decided on Monday, a top-level official at the EC Secretariat said.
The decision will be taken at a meeting to be held at EC office on Monday (April 3) and the meeting will be presided over by Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal.
The last Gazipur City Corporation polls were on June 27, 2018 and the first meeting took place September 11, 2018.
By law, the tenure of a city corporation is five years from the date of the first meeting. As such, the tenure of the Gazipur City Corporation will end on September 10.
He said EC is legally obliged to hold elections in the last 180 days of the outgoing corporation's five-year tenure, which is September 10 for the Gazipur City Corporation.
He said schedules of the other city corporations-- Barishal, Khulna, Rajshahi, and Sylhet -polls will also be discussed in the meeting.
Earlier, Election Commission said polls to five city corporations would be held from May 23 to June 29. The elections would be held in three phases, Jahangir Alam, secretary of the EC Secretariat, said after a meeting of commissioners held at the EC office.
