Pabna University of Science and Technology.
Pabna, April 5 - Suspecting activists of Islami Chattra Shibir (ICS), three students of Pabna Science and Technology University (PSTU) were beaten up allegedly by activists of Bangladesh Chattra League (BCL) on the university campus on Tuesday night.
But the BCL denied the allegation.
One of the three victims was taken to Pabna General Hospital from the university’s medical centre due to his worsening condition.
The injured--Golam Rahman, 24, Asadul Isalm, 23, and Azizul Hoque, 24, are students of the university’s 9th, 10th and 11th batch of Public Administration, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and English departments respectively.
The victims said they were chatting at a field of the university after offering Tarabi prayer on Tuesday night.
Some BCL men came and started asking questions on several issues including involvement with Shibir, and at one stage they took them to Banganbandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, they said.
Later they were beaten up, they alleged.
On information, the university’s Proctor Kamal Hossain rushed to the dormitory and called police to rescue them around midnight.
Later the police took them to the police station and sent Golam Rahman to Pabna General Hospital considering his condition.
Rejecting the allegations of the BCL’s involvement with the incident, he said general students chased them when they had information of a secret meeting by 15 Shibir leaders and activists on the campus.
Three of the Shibir men were caught and brought to the hall later, he said.
Akbar Ali Munsi, superintendent of the district police, said legal actions will be taken against the accused if they are involved with the incident after investigation.
He, however, added that no case has so far been lodged in this connection. - UNB
