The Election Commission (EC) has announced Thursday (May 25) as a general holiday in Gazipur for the city corporation election.



The Election Commission (EC) has announced Thursday (May 25) as a general holiday in Gazipur for the city corporation election.

The EC on Monday issued a gazette notification in this regard. The Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) polls will be held on May 25 through electronic voting machines (EVMs).

Earlier, EC has banned motorcycle movement ahead of the polls for 72 hours.

Assistant Secretary of Road Transport and Highway Division Md Jasim Uddin on Sunday (May 21) issued the circular in this regard.

It said according to the Road Transport Act 2018 (32), the ban on the movement of all heavy vehicles, including pickup vans, cars and trucks, will be applicable ahead of the Gazipur election from May 24 midnight to May 25 midnight.

Besides, the movement of motorcycles will remain suspended from midnight on May 23 to May 26 midnight.

According to the notification, vehicles involved in carrying candidates and their agents, foreign observers are exempted from the imposed restrictions.
