BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday expressed optimism that their planned one-point movement will lead the fall of the government.

“We’re very hopeful that we’ll be able to defeat this government and force it to resign, dissolve parliament and arrange the next polls under a non-party neutral government through our one-point movement as the people are now united,” he said.

The BNP leader made the remarks while talking to reporters after a meeting with the liaison committee of a faction of Gonoforum and People's Party at the BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office, reports UNB.

He said their party is also confident that a pro-people government will be formed through a credible election under a neutral administration to give democracy an institutional shape and restore democracy.

In the meeting, Fakhrul said they discussed the next course of action of the ongoing simultaneous movement.

He said they also talked about how and when they can initiate the one-point movement.

Gonoforum general Secretary Advocate Subrata Chowdhury said there will be no election without a non-partisan neutral government and people will not participate in any polls under the current regime.

“That’s why we’re going to launch the one-point movement soon,” he said.

Chowdury said they reached a consensus with BNP to present a joint statement of their movement within a short possible time and then intensify their anti-government movement involving people.

“A public opinion has been created in favour of holding a fair election under a neutral government. “We’re also getting cooperation from the international community in this regard,” he observed.
