Court decision
A Dhaka tribunal Monday framed charges against 28 BNP leaders and activists, including Barkatullah Bulu, Salima Rahman and Amanullah Aman in a case filed under the Explosive Substances Act.
BNP leaders Habibunabi Khan Sohel, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Assistant Personal Secretary Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, Azizul Bari Helal and Mir Sarafat Ali Safu are among the accused in the case.
Standing Committee member Salima Rahman and 27 others, now on bail, pleaded not guilty and claimed justice after Judge Asif Iqbal of the Special Tribunal-6 of Dhaka read out the charges to the accused people.
Earlier, the court rejected the petitions submitted for discharging them from the charges of the case.
According to the case documents, a group of BNP leaders and activists led by Aman brought out a procession during a hartal of March 17, 2015 in the city’s Mugda area. They threw three crude bombs that left six pedestrians injured.
Following the incident, Sub-Inspector Delwar Hossain filed a case against Salima Rahman, Amanullah Aman and 26 others with Mugda Police Station in the capital under the Explosive Substances Act.
After the investigation, police submitted the charge sheet of the case against them on August 23 of 2017. - Special Correspondent
