Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was refused bail last evening in a case filed with Ramna Model Police Station on the charge of attacking the residence of the Chief Justice of Bangladesh. Later, the BNP leader was sent to the jail.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Shafi Uddin of the CMM court passed the rejecting the bail of Mirza Fakhrul.

Mirza Fakhrul was shown arrested in the case filed on the charge of attacking the residence of the Chief Justice and brought to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court with stringent security. He was immediately produced in the CMM Court.

Pro-BNP lawyers including Advocates Mohsin Mia’ Iqbal Hossain, Khourshid Alam, Fauqui and Syed Mesbah sought the bail of Mirza Fakhrul while the Public Prosecutors vehemently opposed the bail plea.

Mirza Fakhrul was allegedly picked by Detective Branch (DB) of police from his residence in the capital’s Gulshan-2 area on Sunday morning. Meanwhile, Fakhrul’s wife Rahat Ara Begum then said that DB police first came to the residence and took away the CC camera device. After 10 minutes, they entered the residence and detained Mirza Fakhrul, and took him to the DB Office. A sick-man could not be picked up this way, Rahat Ara added.

BNP Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan confirmed the matter to the media saying that Mirza Fakhrul was picked by DB police from his residence around 9am on Sunday.

Earlier, police took position in front of Mirza Fakhrul’s residence in Gulshan-2 area.

However, during the shutdown (Hartal) of BNP, movement of public transports and cars were normal in different parts of the capital since Sunday morning.

Police were deployed in front of the BNP’s Naya Paltan Central Office in the morning. Police were then seen cordoning off a side of the BNP central office.
