Blockade, 2nd day: 3 buses, ambulance set on fire in Dhaka

Three buses and an ambulance were set on fire in different areas of the capital on Wednesday.



Three buses and an ambulance were set  on fire in different areas of the capital on Wednesday, on the second day of a three-day blockade enforced by the BNP and its like-minded parties.

Police, however, detained one persons in this connection.

In Shamoli, some people got into the Gabtoli-bound bus of ‘Welcome Paribahan’ in guise of passengers and set it on fire in front of the Shamoli Square in the capital around 6pm on Wednesday.

Mohammad Imrul, assistant commissioner (Traffic) of Mohammad Zone, said all the passengers managed to get safely out of the bus following the blaze. No casualties were reported, so far.

In Mohakhali, miscreants set fire on an ambulance of a private hospital under Mohakhali flyover in Mohakhali area in Dhaka at around 6.45pm on Wednesday.

In Kafrul, unidentified people reportedly set a passenger bus of ‘Itihash Paribahan’ on fire beside the Kafrul Police Station in the capital around 4pm on Wednesday.

Quoting eyewitnesses Kafrul Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Farukul Alam said miscreants fled the scene after the incident, and the flame was doused by locals shortly after the incident.

In Mugda, some youths got into the bus posing as passengers and suddenly poured petrol and set the bus on fire in Mugda area of the city around 10:55am on Wednesday.

Mugda Police Station OC Abdul Majid said  police detained a youth who set the bus on fire. His accomplices managed to flee.
