BNP wants to restore democracy rather than power: Selima

Begum Selima Rahman, member of BNP standing committee said on Saturday that the people will remove the government from power through their present mode of movement.

Addressing a discussion meeting organized by the Sammilita Peshajibi Parishad at the National Press Club Abdus Salam Hall marking the 88th birth anniversary of Ziaur Rahman, BNP’s founder, as the chief guest she said that the objective of her party was to restore the democratic rights of the people rather than going to power.

Selima Rahman said that the last dummy election was farcical as the people rejected the polling by abstaining from it. For fifteen years the people of Bangladesh remained deprived of their democratic rights, he said.

She recalled the contributions of Ziaur Rahman in restoring multi-party democracy and initiating a process of people-centric development in all sectors and said that the people will continue their movement for the restoration of democracy in the country.

Presided over by Prof. Zahid Hossain, convener of the Peshajibi Parishad, the discussion meeting was also addressed by leaders of different professional bodies. Kader Gani Chowdury, member secretary of the Parishad conducted the largely attended meeting. - GW News Desk
