Withholding party symbol in UP election demand of people, says Law Minister.
Brahmanbaria, Jan 27 -Addressing the advantages of holding the upcoming upazila parishad election without party symbol, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Advocate Anisul Huq said on Saturday that it is the demand of people to hold the election without party symbols.
“Holding the upazila parishad election without a party symbol is the demand of people. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took the decision for this. It will be better for Bangladesh if done,” he said.
Minister Anisul said this while talking to reporters after inaugurating construction works of a public library named after his mother Jahanara Huq and 20 other development projects in Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria.
Asked about BNP’s senior leader Moyeen Khan remarks that it would be another moral defeat of Awami League if the election is held without party symbol this time, he put a counter-question before the reporters whether the BNP faced moral defeat when they participated in the upazila election without the party symbol earlier.
Highlighting the importance of local government elections, the minister said it is pivotal for democratic practice of the country in future.
Law Secretary Golam Sarwar, Upazila Chairman Rashedul Kawsar Jibon, Municipal Mayor Golam Haqqani, Upazila Awami League Vice-President Kazi Azharul Islam, Zila Parishad Panel Mayor Abdul Aziz and former Municipal Mayor Emran Uddin Jewel, among others were present on the occasion. - UNB
