Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, senior joint secretary general of the BNP on Tuesday said that the government was too much afraid of even peaceful black flag procession of the opposition and obstructed the programme in the capital Dhaka. Yet the programme was successful in the capital and the rest of the country.

Addressing a hurriedly called press conference at the BNP office he strongly criticized the government for detaining BNP standing committee member Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan for four hours as he tried to bring out a black flag procession in the Uttara area of the city.

The condemned the arrest of Krishibid Shamimur Rahman Shamim from Bagerhat when he went to see his mother barely three days after his released from jail.

He said that the government was afraid of the people who did not join the January 7 election that he termed ‘Dummy polls’.

He said that the politicized law enforcing agencies were not utilized to arrest money launderers, looters and criminals in the same way they acted against workers of BNP and other opposition political parties.

He said that the government has by its actions turned the country unlivable for gentle people. Rizvi accused AL general secretary Obaidul Quader lying against the opposition to camouflage their weaknesses.

He gave a run down of police action against black flag processions in some other cities including Chattogram and said according to information gathered by late in the afternoon at least 50 workers were arrested and 100 others injured in police action across Bangladesh. Their numbers might increase when the details will be available, he added. – GreenWatch News Desk
