Khaleda Zia’s lawyers pleaded for time extension for hearing of the cases saying the High Court stayed the procedures of most of the cases filed against her.

A Dhaka court has deferred till April 22 the hearing of 11 cases filed with various police stations against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on various charges.

Acting Judge Faisal Atiq Bin Kader of Dhaka Metropolitan & Sessions Judge Court set the date on Wednesday (February 14) at the makeshift court installed in a newly-constructed building at Keraniganj central jail.

Khaleda Zia’s lawyers pleaded for time extension for hearing of the cases saying the High Court stayed the procedures of most of the cases filed against her, said Taposh Kumar Pal, additional public prosecutor of the court.

Of the cases, eight were filed with Darussalam Police Station over arson charges in 2015, two with Jatrabari Police Station on charge of making seditious comments about the freedom fighters and the martyrs of the Liberation War of 1971 and another one with Shahbagh Police Station.
