“Reveal who’s plotting to establish airbase, Christian state”

Dhaka, June 05 - BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday called upon Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to disclose which country seeks to establish an airbase in Bangladesh and create a Christian state by taking parts of Chattogram Hill Tracts (CHT) and Myanmar’s Rakhine.

“The Prime Minister said a few days ago that a white-skinned person proposed to establish an airbase of a country here (in Bangladesh),” he added.

Speaking at a discussion, the BNP leader said the Prime Minister also mentioned that a conspiracy was going on to create a new Christian state by annexing a part of Chattogram in Bangladesh and a part of Myanmar.

“The Prime Minister should now give people a genuine explanation on this matter. Who wanted it and why? Why has it been revealed after such a long time? We want to know this because it's a question concerning the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh,” Fakhrul said.

He also said the independence of Bangladesh is no longer safe in the hands of Sheikh Hasina.

The BNP Secretary General said, Sheikh Hasina’s government failed to stop the killing of Bangladeshis along the border and ensure fair share of water from 154 common rivers with India and ink the Teesta River water-sharing deal.

Jatiyatabadi Ulema Dal arranged the programme at the Jatiya Press Club, marking the 43rd death anniversary of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.

Earlier on May 23, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina disclosed that she was offered a hassle-free reelection in the January 7 polls provided she allowed a foreign country to establish an air base in Bangladesh territory.

“The offer came from a white man,” she said while delivering her introductory speech at the 14-party meeting held at her official residence Ganabhaban.

Sheikh Hasina also said there was a conspiracy to turn Bangladesh into another East Timor. “Like East Timor...they will create a Christian country taking a part of Bangladesh (Chattogram) and Myanmar with a base in the Bay of Bengal.”-UNB
