Dhaka, Jul 17 - BNP has extended all-out support to the nationwide 'complete shutdown' programme for Thursday, announced by the Anti-discrimination Student Movement in protest against attacks on students at various university campuses that resulted in at least six deaths.

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the announcement during a virtual press briefing on Wednesday night.

He said their party's standing committee meeting had decided to fully support the students' programme for Thursday.

On behalf of BNP, he called upon people from all walks of life to participate in the complete shutdown programme to ensure its success.

Earlier, Hasnat Abdulla, coordinator of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, announced a "Complete Shutdown" across the country for Thursday, also demanding justice for those killed in demonstrations and campuses free from terrorism.

He mentioned that no institutions, except hospitals and emergency services, would be allowed to open their doors. Additionally, no vehicles, except ambulances, would be permitted on the roads.

"We urge students from every school, college, university, private university, and madrasa across the country to ensure the success of tomorrow's programme," Abdullah emphasised.

The protest follows a series of clashes that resulted in at least six deaths, mostly of students. - UNB
