Bangladesh Awami League has formed a convening committee of the party with former President Abdul Hamid as convener and Selina Hayat Ivy of Narayanganj as member secretary to run its activities until the next general election.

A press release issued under the signature of Barrister Biplab Barua said, Jananatri Sheikh Hasina resigned as Prime Minister and left the country on August 5 last showing respect to the demands of students and the masses.

It said after the departure of Sheikh Hasina “the Jamaat- BNP allies” launched undescribable repression on leaders and workers of the AL. The victims were ministers, MPs, homes and business establishments of leaders and workers at all levels. This had led to loss of confidence and mental strength grassroots level leaders and workers of the party.

In this situation as it was possible neither for Sheikh Hasina nor ‘her competent son Sajeeb Wazed Joy’ to take the helms of the party, the convening committee has been formed at the order of Sheikh Hasina. It will continue to function until before the next general election, the press release said.
