Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury, former Minister of Housing and Public Works, was apprehended by the Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in Mirpur late on October 31.

Additional Police Commissioner Rezaul Karim Mallick confirmed the arrest to The Business Standard, stating that Muktadir is being held in relation to a murder case stemming from the death of a madrasah student during violent clashes between Awami League and Hefazat-e-Islam supporters in Brahmanbaria in 2021.

The case was officially filed at the Sadar Police Station on August 23 of this year, following the recent political turmoil that led to the fall of the Awami League-led government amidst widespread protests. Muktadir previously served as the lawmaker for the Brahmanbaria-3 constituency.
