Former Awami League lawmaker Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu

Former Awami League lawmaker Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu was arrested in Uttara, Dhaka, this evening. The arrest took place at around 7:30 PM, as part of an investigation into multiple murder cases linked to the aftermath of the August 5 political unrest following the fall of the Awami League government amid widespread student and public protests.

Shambhu, who represented the Barguna-1 constituency (Sadar, Amtali, Taltali), was apprehended by police officers acting on warrants issued in connection with the alleged killings. Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of the Detective Branch (DB) of Police, confirmed the arrest to the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).

Shambhu is expected to be produced before a court tomorrow.
