Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami
"Sheikh Hasina has taken the country's economy to zero," Dr. Rahman said. "They have deceived the nation, claiming to be champions of independence while enriching themselves through corruption."
Speaking at a rally in Saidpur, Nilphamari district, on Sunday, Dr. Rahman criticized the government for its authoritarian rule, claiming that the current leadership is nothing more than "the mother of thieves." He accused Hasina's regime of betraying the country's sovereignty and being expelled after the younger generation exposed their deceit.
Dr. Rahman also demanded justice for the July-August massacre, stating, "We must remain committed to the goals that the young fighters of 2024 fought for in liberating the country from fascism."
He further accused the government of attempting to undermine the July uprising, pointing to the burning of the Secretariat building and the destruction of government documents. "The perpetrators must be held accountable," he added.
The Jamaat-e-Islami leader expressed a vision for a prosperous Bangladesh, free from corruption and injustice. He called for collective efforts to build a welfare state, emphasizing unity and cooperation for economic revival.
Dr. Rahman promised a future Bangladesh where all citizens, regardless of religion or caste, would live with equal rights. He envisioned a country free from extortion and corruption, where the welfare state model would be realized.
"The rivers, canals, and environment must be free from pollution, and modern agricultural practices will ensure the prosperity of farmers," he said. "No one will face oppression, and every sector, including industry, health, and education, will thrive."
The rally was chaired by Saidpur Upazila Jamaat Ameer Hafez Abdul Muntakim, with its Secretary Alhaj Mazharul Islam moderating the event. Other notable leaders, including Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Maulana Abdul Halim, Nilphamari District Ameer Principal Abdus Sattar, and various local and district leaders, also addressed the gathering.
