Bangladesh Muslim League Sylhet District President and Vice-President of the Central Committee , former President of Sylhet Gana Daabi Parishad Akhlaq Ahmed Chowdhury (83) passed away due to old age at 7 pm on Wednesday, January 22 , 2025 at Sylhet Mount Edora Hospital (Inna Lillah Wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun). He is survived by his wife and four sons and daughters, numerous relatives and well-wishers. Today, January 23 , 2025, after Zuhr, Namaz-e-Janaza was held at Hazrat Shahjalal (R.A.) Shrine Mosque and he was buried in the graveyard adjacent to the shrine.

Bangladesh Muslim League Acting President Adv. Md. Mohsin Rashid and Secretary General Kazi Abul Khair expressed deep shock at the death of Mr. Akhlaq Ahmed Chowdhury and extended deep condolences to the bereaved family. In the condolence message, the leaders said , Mr. Akhlaq Ahmed Chowdhury was a humble , honest , hardworking , selfless and dedicated person. As the president of Sylhet Gana Daabi Parishad, he made outstanding contributions for the welfare of the people of Sylhet region. He and his brother Alauddin Chowdhury played a strong role in favor of the Muslim League during the referendum in 1947 to include Sylhet district with Pakistan. The followers of the ideal of Muslim nationalism will be forever grateful to the late Akhlaq Ahmed Chowdhury, a lifelong holder and bearer of Muslim nationalism politics. May Allah grant him eternal rest in heaven , Amen. – Press release
