Govt Committed to Free, Fair Elections
Says Adviser Professor Wahiduddin Mahmud
The interim government is fully committed to conducting free, fair, and inclusive elections in line with the people's expectations, Planning and Education Adviser Professor Wahiduddin Mahmud said on Saturday.
Speaking at an event to mark India’s 76th Republic Day in Dhaka, Mahmud also emphasized Bangladesh’s dedication to strengthening ties with neighboring countries, particularly India. He highlighted the importance of advancing bilateral relations based on fairness, equality, and mutual priorities, while respecting each nation’s sensitivities.
Reflecting on the historical bond between the two nations, Mahmud recalled India’s significant contribution during Bangladesh’s 1971 Liberation War, as well as their continued collaboration since then. “We strongly believe our partnership will only grow stronger in the days to come,” he said.
Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Pranay Verma, also addressed the event, stressing that India seeks a democratic, stable, peaceful, and inclusive Bangladesh. He pointed out that the interdependent nature of India-Bangladesh relations is key to their shared prosperity and regional stability.
Verma underscored the importance of joint efforts to tackle global challenges like climate change and environmental sustainability, reaffirming India’s ongoing support for a peaceful, progressive Bangladesh. “Our cultural and societal ties, along with our mutual interests, will continue to guide our relationship forward,” he added.
