1st National Consensus Commission Meeting in Mid-Feb

He made the statement during a press briefing at the Academy, following a meeting between Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and the heads of six reform commissions.

In attendance at the press briefing were Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, and Assistant Press Secretary Suchismita Tithi.

Regarding the progress of the ongoing discussions, Dr. Asif Nazrul shared that the full reports from the six reform commissions are expected to be released on February 8. On that same day, the heads of the commissions will provide joint recommendations on the reforms that need to be implemented.

“These reports and recommendations will be shared with all political parties and stakeholders who were involved in the July uprising,” Nazrul said. "Following this, consultations will be held with all relevant parties to prepare for the first meeting of the National Consensus Commission."

Dr. Nazrul emphasized that the date of the meeting will be finalized after consulting all political parties and stakeholders. The meeting will be presided over by Chief Adviser Professor Yunus, who also leads the National Consensus Commission. Representatives from all political factions and stakeholders involved in the July uprising are expected to attend.

“We aim to continue the discussions, starting in February, and, if feasible, carry them through the Ramadan period,” Nazrul added.

The six reform commissions were established to guide the country toward fair elections and implement necessary state reforms. The reform commissions include the Constitution Reform Commission, Electoral System Reform Commission, Police Administration Reform Commission, Judiciary Reform Commission, Anti-Corruption Reform Commission, and Public Administration Reform Commission.

Today's meeting saw the participation of the chairpersons of these six commissions: Ali Riaz (Constitution Reform Commission), Badiul Alam Majumdar (Electoral System Reform Commission), Sarfar Raz Hossain (Police Administration Reform Commission), Justice Shah Abu Naeem Mominur Rahman (Judiciary Reform Commission), Dr. Iftekharuzzaman (Anti-Corruption Reform Commission), and Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury (Public Administration Reform Commission).
