Home Adviser Lt. Gen. Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd) stated that the interim government is working to bring back ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and others from India through the extradition treaty.

"We are focusing on those under trial for crimes against humanity at the ICT," he said.

He made these remarks in response to questions about the government's efforts to arrest over 100 individuals wanted by the ICT for their involvement in crimes during the July-August uprising.

Earlier, the adviser attended a meeting with the River Police at its headquarters in Gulshan. He emphasized that while arrests are being made within the country, efforts continue to bring back those residing abroad.

"The main person is not in the country. How can we arrest them abroad?" he questioned, adding that legal actions are ongoing to facilitate their return.

Regarding the red notices for the accused, the police chief, IGP Baharul Alam, expressed hope that Interpol would soon issue the notices.

Addressing the recent attacks in Uttara Thana and Kashimpur Jail, Jahangir Alam assured that the police have been instructed to act swiftly and thoroughly investigate the incidents.

He also urged students to avoid blocking roads during protests, which cause public hardship, and instead hold demonstrations within their institutions and engage with authorities for resolution.

The adviser reiterated that the government does not want to use police force like the "fascist Awami League."

Discussing the challenges of Bangladesh's riverine routes, Jahangir Alam acknowledged the River Police's lack of manpower and vessels, but expressed hope that addressing these issues would improve their effectiveness.

Regarding corruption within the River Police, he assured that anyone found guilty of bribery or irregularities would be punished. He encouraged journalists to report any specific allegations.
