EC Committed to Neutrality, Says CEC Nasir Uddin
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin emphasized that the Election Commission (EC) aims to maintain complete neutrality, with no intention of supporting or opposing any political party.
“We, as members of the commission, do not engage in politics. Our role is not to take sides or show favoritism toward any party; our goal is to remain neutral,” he stated on Sunday.
The CEC made these remarks while speaking at an event at Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital, organized by the Reporters Forum for Election and Democracy (RFED) to present the Journalist Hossain Zakir Best Reporting Award-2024.
In his address, the CEC appealed for the cooperation of journalists to ensure a free and fair election process. He pointed to political influence over the Election Commission as a major cause behind ongoing criticisms of its effectiveness.
“The biggest challenge the Election Commission faces is political interference. If we fail to curb political influence, the same issues will persist. While there may be various factors, I believe political control remains the most significant barrier,” he said.
Reaffirming the Commission's dedication to conducting a fair election, CEC Nasir Uddin stressed that the success of this mission depends on collective effort.
“We are fully committed to ensuring a free and fair election. However, this can only be achieved with the cooperation of all sections of society,” he added.
