UN Report Reveals Genocide Under Hasina: Jamaat Ameer
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has stated that the recent UN investigation report exposes the systemic genocide and human rights violations carried out in Bangladesh under the orders of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Rahman condemned the violent actions of Hasina's government, particularly from July 1 to August 5 of the previous year, aimed at retaining power. He referenced the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) report, which he claimed documents the brutal acts of violence as part of a broader strategy of repression.
Rahman emphasized that the UN's findings reveal the identities of those responsible for these atrocities, including the masterminds behind the violent campaign. He praised the OHCHR for its role in exposing the truth to the international community.
"Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami commends the OHCHR for shedding light on these grave human rights violations," Rahman said in his statement.
The Jamaat leader further declared that this report serves as an undeniable document of genocide. He urged that the interim government take immediate steps to ensure that all perpetrators are held accountable and brought to justice.
Rahman also addressed the public sentiment, suggesting that the Awami League, as the party allegedly responsible for these crimes, should not be allowed to continue its political activities in Bangladesh.
"In accordance with the demands of the people, we believe the interim government must seriously consider banning the Awami League," he stated.
