Home Adviser Lieutenant General Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) stated today that allies of the fallen Awami League (AL) are attempting to destabilize the country, but law enforcement has been directed to enhance patrols nationwide, ensuring that terrorists cannot operate freely.

“Cohorts of the Awami League are trying to create instability, but they will not succeed. We will ensure that terrorists have no safe ground and will prevent crimes at any cost,” he said during an emergency press conference held at his Baridhara DOHS residence around 3 a.m.

The Home Affairs Adviser further explained that these political allies are using large sums of money illegally taken out of the country to fuel unrest. “The government will not allow this, and it will be stopped at all costs,” he emphasized.

Law enforcement agencies have been instructed to increase patrols, with the adviser adding that measures would be in place from Monday to prevent any criminal activity. “If law enforcement agencies fail to implement these instructions, action will be taken against them. The law and order situation will improve day by day, and there is no chance of deterioration,” he assured.

In response to concerns about recent crimes, including a lack of arrests, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury confirmed that arrests are being made. He cited the example of three individuals recently arrested in Savar for a bus robbery, stating that the crackdown on criminals is ongoing.

When asked about students' demands for his resignation due to law and order concerns at a Dhaka University rally, Jahangir clarified, “The students want an improvement in law and order. If I can address the reasons they called for my resignation, there will be no need for that resignation. The law and order situation has already improved and will continue to do so.”

Addressing concerns about the safety of women students, particularly in light of rising crimes against women, he reassured, "Mothers and sisters have no reason to fear. We are vigilant and committed to ensuring their safety. Law enforcement is also focused on preventing any harm."

Regarding the ongoing national crackdown, dubbed "Operation Devil Hunt," the Home Adviser reiterated, “The operation will continue to ensure terrorists cannot operate anywhere in the country.”

Finally, with the increasing use of motorbikes in crimes, Jahangir emphasized the importance of enforcing a prior order limiting the number of riders to two with helmets, aiming to curb such criminal activities.
