Professor Dr. Shahida Rafique, a respected member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson's Advisory Council, passed away early this morning while receiving treatment at Ibne Sina Hospital in Dhanmondi, Dhaka. She was 77 years old.

BNP Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan confirmed her death to BSS.

Dr. Rafique is survived by her husband, two sons, and numerous relatives, friends, and admirers.

In a statement, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed deep sorrow and shock at her passing, remembering her significant contributions to the party and the country.

Dr. Rafique had sustained injuries after falling into a hole at the venue of a BNP extended meeting at the LD Hall of the National Parliament on Thursday. She was promptly given first aid by on-duty medical staff. Following their advice, party leaders arranged for her hospitalization.

Admitted to Ibne Sina Hospital in Dhanmondi, her condition worsened on Saturday morning when her blood pressure suddenly plummeted. The medical team immediately transferred her to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where she passed away at 7:30 AM despite ongoing treatment.

Her untimely death has left a void in both the BNP and the larger community, where she was highly regarded for her dedication and service.
