At least 36 members of the banned Hizb-ut Tahrir (HT) group have been arrested across Bangladesh since Friday, including key organiser Saiful Islam. The group, which was outlawed in 2009 for its anti-state activities, has been under scrutiny for its involvement in a recent illegal rally.

The arrests follow a nationwide search for individuals connected to the rally held outside the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Dhaka. Police are analyzing video footage from the event, identifying numerous HT members who participated in the banned demonstration.

"We have identified several HT members from the rally, and they will face arrest for joining a political program of a banned organisation," said Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam on Saturday.

Multiple cases have been filed under anti-terrorism laws against those involved in the group's activities.
