Hold polls by swiftly doing reforms to stall fascist forces

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday called on the Interim Government to organize elections at the earliest by swiftly doing urgednt reforms because, he said, any delay would make it easier for the fascist forces to comde back to the political arena.

Addressing an iftsr Mahfil organized by the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journaliksts and the Dhaka Union of Journalists at the National Press Club auditorium he said that the crime rate was up in the absence of an elected government which can tacle those this more effectively.

He recalled the contributions made by the journalists to the July mass upsurge and said many of them suffered repressions while some of them sacrificed their lives for the cause of democracy. 

He said that the fascist forces destroyed all democratic institutions and destroyed the country’s economy and laundered billions of dollars from the country to abroad. He reminded all that BNP has formulated the 31-point state reconstruction programme when many people did not even utter reform of the state.

Mia Golam Parwar, secetary general of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami said that the politicalmparties were united on the point of calling elections by doing basic reforms. He said that fascist forces were active to create problems taking advantage of the liberal space created by the Interim Government.

He recalled the sacrifices made by the students and the masses in the mass upsurge of 2024 and said their contributions cannot go in vain. 

The iftar mahfil was attended by journalists of Dhaka and different distrist units of BFUJ. It was also addressed by Kader Gani Chowdhury, secretary general of BFUJ and presided over by its acting president Obadur Rahman Saheen. – GreenWatch Dhaka Desk
