BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today emphasized the critical need for political unity to realize the democratic aspirations of the people of Bangladesh. Speaking at an iftar gathering organized by the BNP at the Ladies Club on Eskaton Road in Dhaka, Fakhrul highlighted the challenges facing the nation and called for collective effort in fulfilling the dreams of a democratic future.
"We are enduring a challenging time. While the environment may be free from fascism, we still lack clear direction on the road to a true democracy," he stated. "The democratic aspirations of the people have been nurtured through years of struggle, especially during the last 15 years and the historic July-August uprising."
Fakhrul stressed that achieving these aspirations would require the united effort of all political parties. "To implement these aspirations, we must stand together," he added.
During the event, which was attended by leaders from various political factions, Fakhrul extended his warm Ramadan greetings and thanked the attendees for their presence. The iftar-mahfil was organized to honor leaders from different political parties and distinguished individuals from the broader community.
The BNP Secretary General also pointed to the reform proposals that have already been submitted to political parties. "I urge all parties to carefully examine these proposals, provide their feedback, and work together so we can move forward in unity," Fakhrul said.
He underlined that all challenges facing the nation should be addressed through consensus among political parties, emphasizing dialogue as the pathway to resolution.
Fakhrul further expressed his belief that, if voted into power, BNP would form a national government and implement its 31-Point Outline for Structural Reforms in Bangladesh, aimed at creating a more inclusive and transparent political system.
Among the dignitaries attending the iftar event were Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr. Abdullah Mohammad Taher, National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam, Jatiya Party faction Chairman Mustafa Jamal Haider, Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna, and Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur.
