BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury today spoke at the exchange of views with media and Ifter Mahfil at Ladies Club in the city in Chattogram

BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury stated that holding a free, fair, and credible national election is the only way to restore democratic order in Bangladesh and reclaim the people's control over the state.

Speaking as the chief guest at a media exchange and Iftar gathering, he accused certain quarters of attempting to obstruct or delay the election, hindering the country’s democratic transition.

“Any alternative to holding elections for establishing a democratic Bangladesh contradicts the spirit of the July uprising and the sacrifices made in the fight against fascism,” he said.

The event, organized by the BNP city unit at the Ladies Club, was chaired by Unit Convener Alhaj Ershad Ullah. It was moderated by Unit Member Secretary Nazimur Rahman and attended by City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossen, former BNP City Unit President, and other leaders including Abul Hashem Bakkar and Alhaj Shamsul Alam.

Khasru emphasized that the people were deprived of their basic rights, including the right to vote, under the previous fascist regime of Sheikh Hasina. He warned that some forces are now working to undermine these rights in a similar manner.

The former Minister called for a clear and definitive roadmap for the national election to fulfill the aspirations of the people and restore constitutional rule through a government with a genuine mandate.

“Everyone, especially key political and social sectors, must align with the changed mindset that emerged from the July uprising to establish a New Bangladesh,” he stated.

Refuting claims that BNP is attempting to rehabilitate Awami League politically, Khasru dismissed these allegations as part of a conspiracy to undermine BNP's popularity. He added, “Those spreading these false claims have no real ideological or popular support.”

Khasru reiterated BNP's commitment to a tolerant society but emphasized that the ousted fascist forces would be held accountable for their actions over the past 15 years, including corruption, repression, killings, and forced disappearances.

He also responded to questions about internal discipline within BNP, stating that the party has set an example by expelling and punishing over 2,000 workers and leaders for misconduct, even without formal investigations, as part of its commitment to maintaining organizational integrity.
