One person was killed and at least 15 others injured in a violent clash between two factions of the BNP in Rangpur's Badarganj upazila on April 5, over control of a business.

The altercation occurred near the central Shaheed Minar around noon. The deceased, identified as 50-year-old Lablu Mia, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) around 4:45 PM. His son, Raihan Ali, confirmed the death to Prothom Alo.

According to the Badarganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) AKM Atikur Rahman, the situation is now under control, with both police and army personnel deployed in the area to prevent further violence. "Legal action will be taken if any complaints are filed," Rahman stated.

Captain Mehedi of the Bangladesh Army revealed that the clash was triggered by a dispute over a corrugated sheet business. "We will take action against those responsible after analyzing the CCTV footage from the area," he added.

Of the 15 injured, at least nine critically wounded individuals were transferred to RMCH after initial treatment at the Badarganj Upazila Health Complex. Dr. Shakir Mubasshir, Residential Medical Officer, reported that the victims had sustained stab wounds to various parts of their bodies, with four in critical condition.

Mohammad Ali Sarker, a former MP and BNP member from the upazila, alleged that Lablu Mia was killed by a criminal group led by Kalupara Union Parishad Chairman Shahidul Haque and his son Tomal. "Lablu was a dedicated political activist, and he was stabbed in the head in broad daylight," Sarker told Prothom Alo.

However, Shahidul Haque denied any involvement in the killing, rejecting the allegations.
