Film actor and road safety activist Ilias Kanchan has launched a new political party named Janata Party Bangladesh (JPB).

The announcement came during a programme held in Dhaka on Friday morning. The party’s slogan is “Gorbo Mora Insafer Desh” (We will build a nation of justice).

Ilias Kanchan is serving as the party’s chairman, while journalist and former BNP vice-chairman Shawkat Mahmud has taken the role of secretary general.

Shawkat officially declared the party’s name and presented its manifesto during the event.

In his speech, Ilias Kanchan said the party was not formed for political gain but to promote national unity and justice. He stated, “We are open to forming alliances if our principles and goals align with others.”

Pledging to work with honesty and integrity, he called on the public for support and urged them to overlook any honest mistakes.

A 27-member ad-hoc committee of the new party was also announced.

Meanwhile, a legal notice has been served to Ilias Kanchan by Shafiqul Islam Sabuj Khan, chairman of another political group named Janatar Bangladesh Party, over a dispute concerning the similarity in party names.
