Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Saturday directed the authorities to establish a dedicated fund to manage recovered looted assets and laundered money.
“The Chief Adviser has instructed the formation of a looted asset management fund, which will be used for public welfare,” said Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam at a briefing held at the Foreign Service Academy, following a high-level meeting on asset recovery.
The meeting, chaired by the Chief Adviser, took place at the State Guest House Jamuna and focused on the progress of repatriating laundered money.
Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur stated that the fund would be set up in accordance with existing laws, adding, “If necessary, amendments will be made to facilitate the creation of the fund.”
He also expressed optimism that the fund could be established within the tenure of the interim government, while emphasising that it should be maintained and strengthened by the next elected administration.
