CA to Meet with BNP and Jamaat This Evening
As political tensions escalate and speculation grows over a potential resignation, Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has invited the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami for separate meetings to discuss the evolving national crisis.
The Chief Adviser’s Press Wing confirmed the development late Friday night (May 24). According to the announcement, Dr. Yunus will meet with BNP leaders at 7 PM and with Jamaat representatives at 8 PM on Saturday.
The initiative comes after BNP’s Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed claimed that the party had been trying to secure a meeting with the Chief Adviser since May 19, but received no response. He alleged that elements within the administration — including ambitious individuals and allies of the ruling Awami League — are treating the BNP as an adversary, obstructing meaningful dialogue.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, Jamaat-e-Islami’s central executive council held an emergency session, during which the party’s Ameer urged the Chief Adviser to convene an all-party meeting to address the mounting crisis.
In a separate development, Nahid Islam, Convener of the National Consensus Party (NCP), met with Dr. Yunus on Thursday evening. During their discussion, Islam appealed to the Chief Adviser to reflect on the spirit of the July uprising, the sacrifices associated with it, and the nation’s trust in his leadership. He emphasized the importance of national unity and urged Yunus to consider these factors carefully before making any significant decisions.
