The BNP on Tuesday renewed its call for the immediate announcement of a clear and specific roadmap to ensure a free, fair, and impartial national election by December 2025.

“We demand the immediate declaration of a concrete roadmap for forming a national parliament by December 2025 through a fair and inclusive election,” said BNP Standing Committee Member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain.

Speaking at a press conference at the BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office, he said the upcoming election—reflecting the people's highest expectation—must be the government's top priority.

“Otherwise, as a party of the people, it will be difficult for BNP to continue its cooperation with this government,” he warned.

Invoking the spirit of the student-led July mass uprising, Mosharraf emphasised that the urgent priority is to establish an elected political government aligned with public aspirations, to restore democratic rights, constitutional rights, human rights, and especially the right to vote.

He expressed disappointment that the government’s recent statement regarding discussions with political parties lacked a clear roadmap for the national election.

He clarified that BNP and its allies have never called for the resignation of the Chief Advisor, nor are they doing so now.

“But we have consistently demanded a roadmap for a fair and impartial national parliamentary election by December 2025 under the interim government’s leadership,” he said.

Mosharraf added that reform and the electoral process can proceed simultaneously, as reform is an ongoing need.

He also stated that the trial process against fascist forces, their associates, and those accused of crimes against humanity will continue.

Addressing allegations that defeated forces and foreign conspiracies are obstructing the government’s functioning, he said, “Only a fair and impartial election can counter such forces effectively. A clear and immediate roadmap is essential—there is no alternative.”

Mosharraf expressed hope that the interim government would act through consensus to uphold national stability, maintain law and order, control commodity prices, and invigorate investment, trade, and business.

BNP Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salahuddin Ahmed, Selima Rahman, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, and Hafizuddin Ahmed were also present.
