The government has decided to form a high-level committee to review the recently promulgated Government Service (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, following widespread objections from public sector employees.

Law Adviser Asif Nazrul disclosed the move on Tuesday after receiving a memorandum from leaders of the Secretariat Officers and Employees Unity Forum.

“There are concerns among government employees regarding the ordinance. The government is open to hearing their objections,” he said. “To address these concerns, a high-level advisory committee will be formed to examine the issues and make recommendations.”

He noted that the committee is likely to be constituted within a day or two, indicating the government’s willingness to reconsider the ordinance in light of the feedback.

“The government is handling this with the highest level of humanitarian consideration,” the adviser added. “If I am included in the committee, I will listen to the employees' concerns sincerely and raise them at the advisory council.”

When asked about the employee leaders’ threat of tougher action after Eid-ul-Azha if the ordinance is not repealed, Asif Nazrul responded, “That is their decision.”

Md Badiul Kabir, Co-chairman of the Secretariat Officers and Employees Unity Forum, said, “We will meet again on 16 June after the Eid holidays. We expect a complete resolution soon. This repressive and black law must be repealed.”
