BNP standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury today said most political parties want the national election in December and a consensus has almost been formed on this matter.

“Judicial proceedings have already started and it will proceed at a normal pace. The government will not interfere here. When these issues are clear, then the sudden decision to hold the election in April has created surprise,” he said while exchanging Eid greetings with party men at his Chattogram residence in Mehedibagh here.

Khasru said it is possible to hold the election even in September, October or November before December.

“For whom the election is being delayed? For whom is it being facilitated? Who is benefiting from it? So will the next election also be influenced by those who are there or will the election be held in their own way?” he questioned.

He said after considering various aspects, everyone had decided December as the logical time to hold the election, reports BSS.

“After that, the holy month of Ramadan will begin, where conducting the election becomes difficult. Immediately after that, there are various obstacles like public exams, adverse weather and nor’wester (Kalbaisakhi). For these reasons, questions naturally arise about the real reason behind the proposal to hold elections in April,” he said.
