Political tolerance key to changing Bangladesh: Khasru

"Political tolerance is needed first to change Bangladesh. Even if one has a different opinion, one must behave tolerantly towards the opponent," he said while addressing a discussion marking the first anniversary of the 2024 July Uprising at the GEC convention center in Chattogram on Saturday afternoon.

The event was organized by Sammillito Peshajibi Parishad Chattogram to commemorate the July-August mass uprising.

Amir Khasru described the July-August movement as a culmination of the people's 16-year-long struggle for change.

"This movement belongs to all the people of the country. The BNP does not seek sole credit for it, nor does it intend to do anything that might divide this movement. We are not in favor of exaggerating the party's role in this national struggle," he said.

BNP standing committee member and central convener of Sammilito Peshajibi Parishad Prof. Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, city mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, BNP chairperson's advisor SM Fazlul Haque, Chattogram member secretary of the Sammilito Peshajibi Parishad Dr. Khurshid Jamil Chowdhury, Premier University vice-chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasrul Qadir, AIB president Jane Alam Selim, former CMUJ president Shamsul Haque Hydari, former assistant secretary general of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists Mustafa Nayem, Bar Council member ASM Badrul Anwar, and CMUJ general secretary Saleh Noman, among others, spoke at the rally, reports BSS. 

A documentary highlighting the 'Awami Misrule' and the July-August mass uprising was screened during the event.
