The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has urged city residents to avoid Shahbagh, Central Shaheed Minar, and Suhrawardy Udyan areas today due to multiple scheduled rallies and cultural programmes that are expected to draw large crowds and disrupt traffic.

According to the DMP, a student rally led by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal is set to take place at Shahbagh intersection from 12pm to 6pm. Simultaneously, the National Citizen Party (NCP) will organise a public rally at the Central Shaheed Minar from 3pm to 6pm, demanding the “July Declaration and Charter.” Meanwhile, Saimum Shilpi Gosthi will continue its “July Awakening” programme at Suhrawardy Udyan, which runs daily from 10am to 10pm until August 4.

The DMP has also reminded residents that HSC and equivalent examinations, along with the BCS exams, are scheduled to be held today across various centres in the capital. Given the overlapping events, the authorities expect heavy congestion, especially around Shahbagh Crossing, and warn of severe disruption to normal vehicular movement.

In light of this, the DMP has requested citizens to avoid travelling through Shahbagh, Shaheed Minar, and Suhrawardy Udyan unless absolutely necessary. Residents have also been advised to follow traffic diversions and use alternative routes to ease pressure on the city’s road network.

City dwellers are particularly asked to steer clear of roads adjacent to the Central Shaheed Minar and all access points to Suhrawardy Udyan, as large numbers of people are expected to gather in those areas throughout the day.

Candidates appearing for HSC, equivalent, and BCS exams are urged to start early and allow extra travel time to reach their examination centres without delay.

The DMP has sought the full cooperation of residents to ensure public safety and maintain order throughout the day’s events.
