BNP acting chairperson Tarique Rahman is expected to return to Bangladesh once the schedule for the 13th national parliamentary election is officially announced, according to his foreign affairs adviser, Humayun Kabir.

When asked about the delay in his return, Kabir said security concerns have been a key factor.

“Although risks still remain, he will come back,” he stated.

Kabir also confirmed that Tarique Rahman intends to contest in the upcoming election and currently faces no legal barriers to his candidacy.

Tarique was arrested during the caretaker government in 2007. The following year, he was granted bail and left the country. Since then, he has been living in London, where he has led the BNP for the past seventeen years.
