Polls roadmap to be announced next week: EC Secy

Election Commission (EC) Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed today said the EC will announce the election roadmap next week for the upcoming 13th national parliamentary elections. 

 
“We have discussed the election roadmap and we hope to give you our election roadmap next week which will give you a better idea about our preparations for the upcoming national polls,” he said. 
 
He was speaking to journalists at the Agargaon Election Commission Building here. 
 
Ahmed also said that they will hold discussions with the media personnel next week.
 
Asked about registration of observer organizations, he said, “We have so far received 318 applications for registration as observer organizations. We are reviewing those.”
 
In reply to another question about application for registration of the political parties, the EC secretary said that they will initially send the issues of registration of 22 political parties to the field level for information. 
 
“Apart from these, there are some other issues that we are regularly reviewing or discussing. I will inform you about this from time to time,” he said. 
 
Ahmed said that one of the important issues is the exercise of the expatriate voters’ voting rights and there was a little discussion on this issue today, reports BSS. 
 
“We discussed what the method, where and how long will it be covered?,” he said.
 
Mentioning that the EC will brief the media every week, the EC secretary said, "We will discuss with you (the media) at least for one or two days every week. Election Commissioner Brigadier General Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah (retd.) and I will brief the media."
 
Responding to a question about what will be in the election roadmap, the EC secretary said, "We will tell you what will be in the roadmap. Dialogues with the members of the civil society and media alongside all information regarding amendments to the laws will be given in the roadmap."
