Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has criticized the Election Commission’s recently announced election roadmap, calling it “conventional” and “partly misleading,” and saying it does not meet public expectations.
In a statement on Thursday, Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar said, “The roadmap announced by the Election Commission does not align with the aspirations of the people. It appears conventional and, in parts, misleading.”
He emphasised that the nation expects the upcoming parliamentary elections in February next year to be free, fair, and credible. However, the Commission has yet to clarify the framework for conducting the vote.
“There is still no final decision on the legal basis for the July National Charter or the process for implementing it. Announcing a roadmap in such an incomplete state is premature and partial,” Parwar said.
He added that any roadmap aimed at restoring democracy should have been preceded by legal clarity and consensus.
“We believe the Election Commission should have finalised the legal foundation and implementation strategy for the July National Charter before announcing a roadmap. Only then can democracy be restored in the true spirit of the July Revolution,” he concluded.
