Sabotage case: Fakhrul among 77 relieved of charges

Dhaka, Sept 15 – A Dhaka court on Monday exempted 77 accused including BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Mirza Abbas and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy from a case filed with Shahbagh Police Station in 2019. 

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Foyez passed the order. 

The court also accepted the chargesheet against 77 people, submitted on May 10. 

According to the case statement, a group of miscreants set fire to some vehicles including motorcycles in front of the main gate of  Bar Council in Shahbagh area on December 11 during the hearing of the bail petition of Khaleda Zia in the Zia Charitable Trust case. 

The then sub-inspector of Shahbagh Police Station filed the case. 

Meanwhile, 29 BNP leaders and activists were exempted from the case filed with Ramna Police Station in 2013 under Explosive Substance Act. 

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Wahiduzzaman passed the order.
