Islami Andolan Bangladesh Ameer Mufti Rezaul Karim, better known as Charmonai pir, on Tuesday said that the July uprising did not take place to allow extortionists or killers to assume power.

He made the remarks while addressing the divisional gathering of eight like-minded Islamic parties in Barishal.

Rezaul Karim said that over the past 53 years, Bangladesh had been led by the BNP, Awami League, and Jatiya Party (JaPa), yet Islam’s principles have never truly guided the nation.

“This time, people want to see the implementation of Islamic law and the Quran’s teachings in governance,” he said.

Addressing the rally, Jamaat-e-Islami's Senior Nayeb -e-Ameer Mujibur Rahman emphasised that tomorrow’s Bangladesh would be an Islamic Bangladesh.

He condemned those siding with fascists or promising to withdraw Awami League cases as betraying the spirit of the July uprising.

Local and central leaders of all eight parties also spoke, wishing for the health of Khaleda Zia and Jamaat leader Dr Abu Taher.

The event, held at Bells Park, saw a huge presence of leaders and activists, reports UNB.
