BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed today said if his party comes to power, they will provide full cooperation to the mass media, keeping in mind the oppression and repression experienced under the previous fascist government.

He said, "If the BNP forms the next government, it will provide full cooperation to the mass media, bearing in mind the oppression and repression of the past fascist regime."

Salahuddin made the remarks at an exchange of views meeting with media editors and journalists in Banani of the city.

Regarding the attacks on Prothom Alo and The Daily Star, Salahuddin Ahmed said, "Certain media outlets were targeted for attacks. They were targeted beforehand. But why were we not cautious earlier? Why is 'mobocracy' happening? Why did these things occur? These are, in fact, the weaknesses of the government. These must be resisted with an iron hand. We do not want to see mobocracy in Bangladesh."

The BNP Standing Committee member added that while many journalists may believe in different ideologies, they should not remain neutral on the question of the country; they should stand for the country.

He expressed his expectation for cooperation from media to strengthen the pillars of democracy upon the return of Tareque Rahman, reports UNB.

"The BNP seeks everyone's cooperation to strengthen democracy, not cooperation for any individual or party. We want to forget the past, but we want to remember the fascist era," Salahuddin Ahmed said.
