Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Saturday announced that the National Citizen Party (NCP) and the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) have formally joined the Jamaat-led eight-party alliance.

Speaking at a press briefing, he described the development as timely, saying it comes at a critical moment in the country’s political landscape.

Dr Shafiqur Rahman said discussions among alliance partners are nearing completion, with seat-sharing arrangements almost finalised. He added that the remaining nominations would be submitted soon and expressed optimism about the overall process.

According to him, agreements on several constituencies have already been reached through negotiations. He also noted that although more parties have shown interest in joining the alliance, further expansion is not possible at this stage.

Leaders from alliance partners, including LDP Chairman Col (retd) Oli Ahmed and representatives of other Islamist parties, were present at the briefing.
