The interim government headed by Prof Muhammad Yunus has been formally dissolved with the formation of the newly elected government under the leadership of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman.

A gazette notification issued by the Cabinet Division this evening said as per the Clause (3) of Article 56 of the Constitution, the president has appointed Tarique Rahman as the Prime Minister, recognising him as a Member of Parliament who commands the confidence of the majority in the parliament, reports BSS.

The president also gave consent for the formation of a new government under his leadership, it added.

"With the formation of the new government, the Council of Advisers of the current interim government shall be considered dissolved," the notification said.
