DoE fines over Tk 24 lakh, closes 9 brick kilns for polluting environ

DoE conducts mobile court drives in Dhaka and elsewhere in the country to check pollution



Dhaka, Jan 14 - The Department of Environment under the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change conducted several mobile court drives in Dhaka and elsewhere in the country on Tuesday to check pollution

During the drives, the mobile courts imposed fines over Tk 24 lakh, closed nine brick kilns and warned several establishments.

Five courts were conducted in Rangpur, Nilphamari, Mymensingh, Manikganj, and Kurigram districts, filing 13 cases and fines worth Tk 22.7 lakh.

Moreover, the raw bricks of two kilns were damaged and seven brickfields shut.

Under the Air Pollution Control Rules-2022, four mobile courts were conducted at Mugda, Dhanmondi, Shah Ali (Dhaka), and Rangpur.

Eight cases were lodged, Tk 92,000 fined, five establishments warned for violating pollution control regulations during the drives.

In Dhaka’s Jatrabari, a mobile court also fined six vehicles Tk 30,000 for emitting excessive carbon monoxide.

In Faridpur, a mobile court filed two cases, fined Tk 1,500, seized 82 kg of polythene and warned two establishments on several grounds.

The ministry remains committed to ongoing efforts to combat air and environmental pollution.-UNB
