Mobile courts launched by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change carried out a series of operations across the country on Tuesday, targeting air, noise, and plastic pollution, as well as illegal brick kilns.

In Dhaka’s Mohammadpur, a mobile court led by Deputy Secretary and Executive Magistrate Tushar Kumar Pal fined seven entities a total of BDT 52,000 for leaving construction materials uncovered, in violation of the Air Pollution (Control) Rules, 2022. Three contractors were also served official warnings.

Another mobile court operated in Dhaka’s Motijheel area under the Noise Pollution (Control) Rules, 2006. Eight cases were filed, BDT 11,500 in fines were collected, and 12 illegal hydraulic horns were seized.

In Rangpur, authorities targeted the illegal production and sale of banned polythene bags under the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act, 1995 (Amended 2010). A fine of BDT 45,000 was imposed and 84 kilograms of polythene were confiscated. Shopkeepers, including large retailers, were warned against selling or distributing such products.

Further drives were conducted in Narayanganj, Kishoreganj, and Jashore, focusing on illegal brick kilns contributing to air pollution. Four cases were filed, BDT 300,000 in fines imposed, and three brick kiln chimneys along with unfired bricks were demolished and set ablaze.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to continuing these operations to safeguard the environment nationwide.
