Khulna on Thursday recorded its highest rainfall in six years, after the district received 146 mm of rainfall in 24 hours.

Khulna on Thursday recorded its highest rainfall in six years, after the district received 146 mm of rainfall in 24 hours till  morning, according to the local weather office.
The district recorded the highest rainfall in six years triggered by the low pressure over the Bay of Bengal in 24 hours till 6am on Thursday, said Md Amirul Azad, assistant meteorologist of Khulna Meteorological Office.
The low-lying areas of the district, including Nirala, Mujgunni, Boyra and Prantika, went under water following incessant rains, causing immense sufferings to the SSC examinees. The exams began this morning.

Meanwhile, the well-marked low pressure area formed over the central part of Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas hasbmoved north-northwestwards and now lies over West Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas.
The maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been asked to lower cautionary signal No 3, with the threat of a storm finally subsiding.
However, the district will see more rains in the next couple of days as the monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh, the Met office has predicted.
