Dear Editor

I write this letter with profound shock and sorrow over the senseless killing of Zahidul Islam Parvez, a meritorious student of Primeasia University. The incident, reportedly stemming from a trivial matter of laughter before two female students of the nearby University of Scholars, has left us grappling with the fragility of human decency and the pitiable state of mind that led to such a tragedy.

If the laughter had indeed caused discomfort to the two female students, there were countless ways to address the situation constructively. Instead, the decision to involve others and escalate the matter into a quarrel was both unnecessary and deeply regrettable. The friends who responded to their call had no justification for their actions, let alone the heinous act of taking the life of a fellow student—a young individual striving to build his future, just like them.

This incident underscores a troubling disconnect between the values expected of university students and the behavior exhibited in this case. It is a stark reminder of the urgent need for fostering empathy, conflict resolution, and emotional intelligence within our educational institutions.

As we mourn the loss of Zahidul Islam Parvez, we must also reflect on the measures needed to prevent such tragedies from recurring. I urge the authorities to ensure that justice is served swiftly and fairly, and to take proactive steps to cultivate a culture of respect and understanding among students.

Let us honor Zahidul's memory by committing to a safer and more compassionate environment for all.

Sincerely,

Zahidul Haque
